Why this site exists
ScoopWatReelBantr started with a simple irritation: when a short video made us laugh, we wanted to know why, and most explanations were either academic or just a list of clips. We wanted something in between — clear, affectionate writing about the small decisions that make comedy work.
Our readers are curious comedy fans and people making their first funny videos. Both groups share one question: what exactly happened in that second that made it funny? Every page here tries to answer that, using the pause, the glance and the cut as starting points.
How we write
- Original examples. We illustrate techniques with imagined scenes and our own photographs. We don't host clips or imply access to footage.
- Real references, carefully. When we mention films, sketches or performers, we stick to widely documented facts.
- No guaranteed laughs. We explain patterns that tend to help. We never claim a formula works every time.
- Jokes second. We allow ourselves some dry wit, but never at the expense of the lesson.
